A quick hello / intro
Hi Folks,

I've been interested in severe weather, since growing up in the tropics of Australia and experiencing some amazing cyclonic conditions and severe thunder storms through my teenage years. It left a very lasting impression!

I now live in Fife, Scotland and in 2006 I setup a weather station at my home, which I put online as http://www.fifeweather.co.uk This has now become a busy website, with lots of visitors from the local community, who use it as their local weather resource.

Then, in early 2009, in a moment of madness, I committed to building a mobile weather lab, based around a 4x4. The website for this madness became http://www.weatherevents.net and this year, I'm hoping to get the lab out and about as much as possible.

The lab isn't really a storm-chaser as such, but instead is built to be able to web-cast live wx data and weathercam images from the lab straight onto the internet. I'm trying to generate interest from the outdoor event community in having the lab at their events.

Below are a couple of pics of the lab, setup at the Bruce Festival (Dunfermline) & Royal Highland Show (Edinburgh)

Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself, as I love weather-watching in general, but my real passion is still severe weather! I just wish we got more thunderstorms here in Scotland!! One day, I'd love to chase twisters in the USA, but in the meantime, I'll need to be content with cold-air funnel clouds in Fife. Smile

Cheers,
Graham

Hi Graham

Welcome to the severewx forums,

I recognised the RHS photo as I go every year. I am situated at the top of the Clyde Valley in Lanark, depending on where in Fife you are a great chase are in Scotland is along the ridge between Forth and Clyde Valley, they have their own weather patterns and have spawned quite a few funnels and tornadoes over the last few years especially along the A71 by Harthill, noticing an increase in the amount, the best being, last year when I had a very close encounter with a rather large funnel, photos in photography forum best chase of 2009.

I have been aware of MSC's developing over South Lanarkshire and going on to produce funnels over Stirling and Fife.

I will add your site to members websites pinned topics on this forum and look out for you at RHS.

Look forward to your contributions

RE: A quick hello / intro
Hi Gill,

Many thanks for the warm welcome! It's a shame I didn't get to catch up with you in person at last year's RHS! I'm not 100% sure if I'm going this year, as there are a number of other events over that same weekend, but it's too early to tell (I'll try and keep the forums posted with my movements).

That is really interesting to hear about the Forth and Clyde Valley ridge. I didn't realise it was such a potential hot-spot! Great pictures from your '09 storm chase.. sounds like you got a little closer than expected!? Smile I'm based in Lochgelly incidentally.

I'm really looking forward to trying to further my understanding of the conditions that bring about severe weather. Even though I've been interested in weather-watching for some time, my meteorological knowledge still needs a lot of expanding and I'm determined to try and put that right this year! Smile

Looking forward to learning lots and hopefully contributing something of interest too. Thanks for adding my website to the members site thread too!!

Cheers,
Graham
