Snow reports week beginning 08-02-2010
Monday sees a chilly start to the week for some with warnings in place over Grampian region for ice. This week sees the return of snow to some areas of the UK, a high pressure system is dominating the UK through the course of the week with that we can expect temperature to fall as the week goes on.
Monday we see a increased risk of snow to much of the UK but the areas at greatest risk are Eastern Coastal regions of Scotland, England and extending through the Midlands in to Wales as this system pushes west through the course of the day, with temperature dropping to -1 / -3. Tuesday starts off with a sharp frost for many areas with the risk of snow subsiding over the UK leaving The Highlands, Wales and the south seeing the remaining flurries. The temperatures drop away sharply again through the night with a widespread frost for many areas Grampian and Highlands seeing the temperature fall to -5. Wednesday sees the widespread frost lifting to give way to milder temperatures and more snow from the East, to Southern Eastern coastal regions. In to the evening the temperatures fall away again but with a more marked drop, leaving a widespread frost over the UK and Ireland. Thursday will start very cold due to the widespread frost with the Eastern and Southern Coastal fringes seeing some snow. This remains the case for the course of the day with temperature barely reaching above freezing with the temperatures dropping away again to leave another widespread frost over the UK and Ireland. Please post your snow reports here thanks. Gill Associate fellow: Royal Meteorological Society TORRO SkyWarnUK spotter ID SL002 |

Flash warnings from Metcheck earlier: http://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/FREE/warnings.asp The heaviest snow shower I've seen for years in the last couple of hours, certainly far heavier than anything Harlow got during the big freeze last month.

The Met Office have now issued a severe weather warning for the Eastern regions of England for heavy snow and widespread frost,
http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/u...nings.html The radar is snowing some intense snow showers building off the coast and a front moving in from the SE. Surprisingly we have not had any snow as yet but the temperatures are dropping

It was freezing here in oxfordshire today, blizzard conditions on a couple of occasions but because of the strength of the wind not much settled, about an inch in places on low ground, bitterly cold windchill though and all frozen now so treacherous outside.
