I just came back from a "holiday" in dawlish warren, devon yesterday rain and storms constantly added 2 pics to show you all how nice it was, friday in particular produced a freak storm over 20 forked lightning bursts in around 5 minutes lots of thunder and torrential rain. The picture of the bridge is where you had to walk through to and from the beach, council workers ferried people through it on the back of a pick up including me  Left yesterday as i knew what was coming today and just wanted to get home.

Floods!
I was in Leeds city centre all day yesterday and I can honestly say I have never seen rain like it. Not so much because of its heaviness, but more because of its consistency. It rained non stop for fourteen hours!!! Lots of flooding and having just arrived back in York this morning the Ouse has burst her banks for the second time this month after 3 inches of rainfall yesterday!! which beat the 55mm that we had two weeks ago, and I thought that was as bad as it could get lol.

Floods!
I can honestly say I am surprised by the lack of interest in the floods on this forum considering they were such a manifestation of severe weather. I am in S Wales and it didn't directly affect us here but since there have been 4 fatalities and hundreds of people evacuated from homes and businesses due to such a massive deluge we have only 3 entries on the topic. Maybe we should just call it the tornado and lightning chasing forum?....

Floods!
I have a lot of interest in what has happened pic man, but i live at the top of a big hill and my area, and even the lower lying parts of were not affected, hence no photographs, I have never seen footage like it on tv and my sympathies go out to all those affected, maybe the lack of posts on the forum as a whole this week suggests people have other things to do or have been affected themselves. i can take a picture of a couple of puddles the next time it rains. but that is probably the best i can do

You beat me too it  I have to admit I expected this summer to be a record summer for other reasons:huh:with regard to soaring temps, the rain has been a shock for everyone, having watched the radar images for the system it was so slow moving and held so much water. Up here in this bit of Scotland we have had the same old, same old with regard to the rain. My sympathy does go out to all those who have lost family and their homes to what has taken the UK suprise. Floods!
Just seen that the military have been drafted in to help with the clean up of the floods, there seems to be more rivers bursting their banks.

Floods!
I'm sorry to hear about that, that's terrible.
Can anyone tell me what caused the floods? I mean the meteorological situation. I've searching for the cause on the internet and I've read that it was an area of low pressure? Is that true? I guess many other things have influenced too, such as, the orography for example. |
